Mary Jo earned her Masters degree in Speech and Language Pathology from Central Michigan University in 2012. Mary Jo is a certified member of both the American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA), and the Michigan Speech- Language Hearing Association (MSHA).  She is also a certified Brain Injury Specialist though the Brain Injury Association of America.  She has worked in a variety of inpatient and outpatient settings including schools, pediatric clinics, hospitals, and nursing homes, receiving her Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP) in 2013. Her unique professional background is utilized daily at Communicare to assist members with a wide range of impairments post injury, such as dysphagia (swallow) rehabilitation, voice, speech, social, or cognitive skills (attention, recall, forward planning, safety, organization, insightfulness) post traumatic brain injury.  In 2017, she earned an ACE award for continuing education from ASHA, which is indicative of her commitment to ensuring she is up to date on all current research within the field of traumatic brain injury rehabilitation as it relates to speech and language skills.
