Art Therapy at CMI is an evidence based cooperative blending of creative arts practices with psychotherapeutic approaches to rehabilitation and mental health. Creative expression occurs through exploring many fine art processes, including painting, printmaking, screen printing, sculpture, ceramics, jewelry making, creative writing, music, metalwork, woodworking, & crafts. These processes are explored in conjunction with a range of psychodynamic, cognitive behavioral, and humanistic psychological approaches.

Therapeutic benefits include:

  • Cognitive improvements (memory, attention, decision making, problem solving, expression)

  • Behavioral learning (choice making, positivity, affirming self)

  • Emotional regulation (anger, guilt, fear, shame, joy)

  • Stress and anxiety reduction

  • Processing difficult life transitions

  • Post traumatic strength finding

  • Processing grief and loss

  • Meaningful expression and purpose finding
